Kneipp
In the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, an entire town is devoted to Kneipp Wellness. It is Kneipp Town - the spa village of Bad Worishofen, where every hotel and guest-house offers the Kneipp-Kur, and the doctors practice Kneipp Wellness. These teachings of the 19th century cleric begin with Sebastian Kneipp's self discovery of the healing powers of water - icy dips in the Danube - to stimulate his own natural resistance which put his tuberculosis into remission. Later, as a curate, instead of giving last rites to gravely ill patients, Kneipp was soon curing a number of them.
In the remote monastery of Worishofen, Kneipp continued his search for natural healing and wellness as a way of life.
The 5 pillars of Kneipp Wellness for Body, Mind and Soul.
Hydrotherapy: unleashes the healing powers of water as it stimulates skin and circulation, and soothes away stress.
Phytotherapy: promotes plant-based remedies. Time tested herbs and plants that can be preventative and curative.
Kinesitherapy: is aerobic exercise that amplifies the energizing effect of water stimuli and the supportive influence of herbs.
Dietetic therapy: is Kneipp's natural nutrition philosophy - consistent with today's theories for a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Essential for body, mind and soul healing, according to Kneipp.
Kneipp wellness becomes mainstream.
Today, Kneipp therapy is recognized by mainstream scientific medicine in Germany and represents the core of natural, holistic medicine. Chairs have been established at universities in Berlin and Zurich to train doctors in the Kneipp natural healing processes. The international Kneipp Confederation of professionals and lay people is the world's largest self-help group.
